Obscure Animals was formed in Austin, Texas in 2021, by vocalist and rhythm guitar player JR Kaufman, bassist Patrick Shea, drummer Jesse Blankenship, and lead guitarist David Menendez. Self described as a mixture of alternative rock and midwest emo, their sound is heavily influenced by bands like Rival Schools, Mineral, The Smashing Pumpkins, and The Get Up Kids.

Obscure Animals currently have an EP, The Intervention, a full length album, Picking Berries On The Way To The Apocalypse, and are currently working on a second full length album, which is currently expecting release in 2024.
